KU Leuven has campuses in Leuven, Antwerp (former Lessius University College) and Brussels. The subfaculty of language and communication offers a.o. a master in translation and an international postgraduate in specialized translation, with a focus on terminology and language technology. Research activities focus on translation and interpreting studies, terminology management, translation technology and localisation, cognitive linguistics, journalism studies, cultural studies, courseware development and foreign language learning.

The research on terminology is organized in a renowned research group: Quantitative Lexicology and Variational Linguistics (QLVL).  It focuses on empirical, corpus-linguistic studies of language variation, with a specific emphasis on lexical variation. Current research projects are:
- TermWise (building an ontological terminological database on legal terminology for the Belgian law French-Dutch)(IOF funded project 2009-2013)
- Qualetra (Quality in Legal Translation; building a multilingual terminology database for the EU member states following the Directive  2010/64/EU)
