Frieda Steurs

Frieda Steurs is a Full Professor in terminology, technical translation and language technology and the head of the research group ‘Language and Computing’ at the KU Leuven, Antwerp, Belgium. She teaches Terminology and Documentation, Media and Translation and Technical and Scientific translation. Her research includes terminology management, language technology and standardisation. This has lead to several projects with industrial partners and government organisations. She is the founder of NL-TERM, the Dutch terminology association for both the Netherlands and Belgium.  She is also the head of the ISO TC/37 standardisation committee for Belgium and the Netherlands and president of Coterm, the government body on terminology for the Netherlands and Belgium. Since October 2003, she is the head of the department translation and interpreting in the Lessius University College.

 

Klaus-Dirk Schmitz

Klaus-Dirk SchmitzKlaus-Dirk Schmitz is Full Professor of Terminology Studies at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne in Germany. His teaching and research activities focus on terminology theory and terminology management as wells as on software localization and computer tools for translators. Numerous articles and books where he acts as author, co-author and editor show his excellent expertise in these fields. Prof. Schmitz has also taken a leadership role in national and international forums e.g. as president of the Council for German Language Terminology (RaDT), president of the International Information Centre for Terminology (Infoterm), and chairman of the German Standards Committee on Computer Applications in Terminology. The formal training of Prof. Schmitz was actually in Computers and Linguistics. He holds a diploma in Computer Science and Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Information Science, both from the University of Saarbrücken. He starts his academic career in ambitious research projects on Machine Translation and Translator’s Workbenches recognizing very soon that is wise and useful to concentrate more on training potential users of these tools and on developing more application-oriented and user-friendly versions of linguistic software. In 1992 he transferred his appointment from the University of Saarbrücken to the Faculty of Information and Communication Studies in Cologne where he also heads the Institute for Information Management as Managing Director.

 

Georgeta Ciobanu

Georgeta Ciobanu is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Automation and Computers, the Department of Communication and Foreign Languages at the Politehnica University of Timisoara in Romania. She teaches terminology, languages for special purposes, communication, and holds a Ph. D. in Linguistics from the University of Bucharest. She attended advanced trainings in terminology and terminography, in teaching languages for special purposes and teacher training. She has been a terminology trainer in Bucharest, Cluj, Craiova, Chisinau, Tallinn, Pretoria, Brussels, Luxembourg, Zagreb, Ankara, Timisoara, and coordinates the CTM ECQA training Centre within the Centre for Terminology Information and Research in Politehnica, a TermNet member. Georgeta also acted as a director, collaborator or partner in several international terminology projects. Active as a member and Board member for EAFT, as a Realiter member, as a Terminology Committee Board member for FIT, as a TermNet vice-president and member, Georgeta contributed to terminology development and networking. Her research interests focus on terminology, new media in terminology teaching, terminography, languages for special purposes, linguistics of languages in contact, translation; Georgeta Ciobanu is the author and co-author of numerous books, textbooks, articles, glossaries (Internet, e-Commerce, mobile communications, branding, economics, building installations, architecture and town planning) published in these fields of expertise.

Gabriele Sauberer

Gabriele is a pioneer in the professional management of EU funded projects, in European diversity management and quality management for the language industry. She initiated the first International Diversity Summer School and a Quality Standard on Diversity Management. Many projects and trainings at European, regional, national and international level. Certified quality auditor, EN 15038 lead auditor and expert in several standardization committees, such as Terminology, Translation, Human Resources, Diversity management, Corporate Social Responsibility. Interdisciplinary research and training at the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Vienna.

 

 

 

Petra Dutz

Petra Dutz studied applied languages and cultural studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz and in 2005 qualified as assistant lecturer with the focal points being CAT tools, software localization and terminology.  After working for SAP AG in Waldorf as Language Technology Consultant, Petra joined SDL in the summer of 2009 as Technologies Partner Manager.

 

Hendrik Kockaert

Hendrik is Associate Professor of French Linguistics, Terminology, Legal Translation, and Translation Technology, at Lessius University College. He is a Research Associate at the University of the Free State, in the area of Terminology management. He is the founder and editor of the Journal of Internationalisation and Localisation [JIAL], and a Visiting Professor of Terminology and Translation environment tools at the Universidad de Granada.  For the ISO/TC 37/SC 1, he is a nominated expert in terminology issues and the convener for Work Group 5 in which he is preparing standards on concept modelling in terminology work (Guidelines for applying UML notation in terminology work [ISO 24156]). He is the convener of the Terminology Coordination Group for ISO/TC 37. He is also a member of NEN 400 037, the Dutch Standardization Institute, and NBN, the Belgian Standardization Institute.

 

Christian Galinski

Christian Galinkski is director of the International Information Centre for Terminology since 1986. He is an expert for Japanese and Chinese and communication studies and spent several years in Japan. As a registered court translator for Japanese, he set up a business promotion and language service company, focussing its activities on East Asia. After joining Infoterm in 1979, he had weathered over the years the rising and falling tides of trends in terminology. He remains an indefatigable promoter of international co-operation in terminology.

 

Detlef Reineke

Detlef Reineke has been a teacher and researcher at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria/Spain since 1994. He holds a degree in technical translation from the University of Hildesheim, Germany, and a Ph.D. under Professor Dr. Klaus-Dirk Schmitz (data modelling in software localization). Reineke is the  chief editor of the German magazine on terminology eDITion, published by the German Terminology Association (Deutscher Terminologie Tag e.V.).

 

 

 

Annette Weilandt

Annette Weilandt holds a degree in translation and business studies from the University of Leipzig, Germany. For several years she worked at Daimler AG in Stuttgart where she was responsible for the multilingual terminology coordination and management. For her Ph.D. research project beginning in 2008 she combined her job at Daimler AG with an employment as research assistant at the University of Leipzig where she teached terminography as well as project and quality management for translators. Her doctor’s thesis deals with a process-oriented approach of terminology management for the automotive industry. With her doctoral examination being in the final stage, Weilandt has recently taken up employment as Senior Consultant for Terminology Management at brox IT-Solutions GmbH in Leipzig, a company offering knowledge management solutions. In 2013 Weilandt was elected general secretary of the German Terminology Association (Deutscher Terminologie-Tag e. V.).
