ECQA Certified Terminology Manager - Engineering

The course comprises 6 units (4 theoretical units and 2 practical units based on exercises).
For every unit participants will receive:
 - A set of materials (to be found in a Moodle-based e-learning platform)
 - An online tutorial or live webinar
 - And a discussion forum for questions and answers.

Through the weeks appointments for live webinars will be set and the content of these webinars will be posted in the Moodle platform afterwards.
Students will go through the materials by their own and will be coached for the practical exercise

  • Coining terms and writing definitions for engineering environments
  • Dealing with essential data categories for engineering terminology
  • How to structure a terminological entry (equivalents, synonymy and ontologies)

UNIT 2 – TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION AND DOCUMENTATION

  • Interfaces for technical communication and terminology work
  • Multilingual documentation (English terminology for non-English speakers)
  • Controlled language and relevant tools
  • Standards for technical documentation (DITA and more)

UNIT 3 - TERMINOLOGY STRATEGIES FOR BUSINESS PROCESSES

  • Terminology planning and policies
  • How to present the business case for terminology
  • How to calculate and argue costs & return on investments
  • How to involve relevant stakeholders
  • How to collaborate and communicate with relevant organisational units and teams


UNIT 4 – QUALITY AND HARMONISATION IN ENGINEERING

  • Handling inconsistencies
  • Updating and maintenance
  • Workflows and processes
  • Standards, copyright and product liability

UNIT 5 – BEST PRACTICE AND WORST PRACTICE 

  • Practical examples and case studies delivered by trainers and facilitators
  • Participants analyse and comment on one case study (oral exam – part 1)  

UNIT 6 – APPLICATION SCENARIOS

  • Participants terminology projects  (oral exam - part 2)
