Punjab Technical University launches Centre for Language Innovation

"No diplomacy can prevail, if translators and interpreters are not there to interpret between the languages, said", His Excellency Mr. Cesar Ferrer, the ambassador of Uruguay in India during a seminar organized by Punjab Technical University on Language and Translation Industry of India: First mover advantage for Punjab. He was invited as the Chief Guest of the Conference. While giving his talk, he assured the officials of PTU that his government would help in providing Native Language trainers through state university of Uruguay.
 
The 21. May 2012, the Punjab Technical University organized, a seminar on Language and Translation Industry of India: First mover advantage for Punjab. The seminar was well attended not only by Directors, Principals, academicians of PTU but also by industry representatives and scholars from different parts of India. During the conference Vice Chancellor of PTU Dr. Rajneesh Arora formally launched Centre for Language Innovation that will focus on Research and Innovation in languages and promote skill development in the related areas.
 
Mr. Ravi Kumar, Founder President of Indian Translators Association, the keynote speaker of seminar explained in detail the current scenario of language and translation industry of India followed by the professional challenges that the industry faces. Mr. Kumar also explained the importance of the B.Sc and PG Diploma in Translation and Interpretation studies already launched at PTU Mohali Campus in last month of this year. He thanked Dr. Rajneesh Arora for having taken proactive initiative in promotion of translation studies that is being taken as a revolutionary step towards creation of knowledge based society.
 
Vice chancellor Dr. Rajneesh Arora informed the gathering that in the first stage translation courses will be introduced in more than 200 colleges in Punjab that would require at least 2000 trained professionals to impart training to approximately 20000 students in next 5 years. He stressed upon creation of Placement Cell and appealed to the industry representatives to help experts in filling academic as well as Industrial gaps.
 
The officials informed that the Centre for Language Innovation will have pool of experts not only from India but also from all corners of the world and it will have world class facilities to become center for excellence.
