CALL FOR PAPERS - NZSTI Conference 2014: Communicating in a Connected World

Communicating in a Connected World
Annual Conference of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters

21-22 June 2014
Auckland, Australia

Translators and interpreters are by definition in the business of communicating. “Being connected” is one of the essential conditions of the modern world: nowadays, we have instantly-available means of communication wherever and whenever. And communicating in a connected world is very different from the working conditions of the past. This means that our working environment has changed beyond recognition over recent years, presenting us with both many new opportunities and also some new challenges.
At its 2014 Annual Conference in Auckland, the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters  wishes to explore various facets of communicating through translation and interpreting in today’s connected environment – its practical, technical, theoretical, philosophical or ethical aspects, chances and challenges, and much more.
The conference audience will be multilingual and consist of a diverse range of academics and practitioners engaged in the global translation and interpreting industry.
Submissions for paper presentations of about 20 minutes duration or proposals for workshops or panel discussions of 30 – 60 minutes duration should include a title, an abstract of about 250 words and a brief profile of the speaker. Proposals should be submitted electronically to info@nzsti.org.
The closing date for submissions is 28 February 2014.
The Organizing Committee intends to publish single-blind peer-reviewed proceedings of the conference soon after the event. It would be appreciated if you could indicate your interest and consent or otherwise regarding publication in the proceedings.
